Why This Drill Works (Kinetic Mechanics)
Removing the base of support forces the golfer to rotate strictly around their center. If you sway, you fall. Instant feedback.
How to Perform the Drill
Follow these step-by-step instructions. Rehearse slowly to build proper motor patterns before adding full swing speed.
- 1
Step 1
Place feet completely together.
- 2
Step 2
Make 3/4 swings focusing on balance.
- 3
Step 3
If you sway or fall over, you are swinging too hard.
- 4
Step 4
Clip the grass cleanly.
What Good Feels Like
Focus on smooth tempo and maintaining body connection through impact. Your body and club should move as a single synchronized unit.
Common Mistake to Avoid
Rushing transition before completing backswing or lunging upper body forward towards ball at impact. Keep movement controlled.

Comprehensive Guides Featuring This Drill
You top or thin the ball because the club's low point is behind the ball or your swing center rises before impact. Fix it by keeping your sternum steady, shifting pressure onto your lead foot before impact, and committing to a descending strike that clips the turf after the ball: not by trying to lift the ball up.
Consistency means a repeatable strike location and a repeatable distance, and it is measured rather than felt: memory keeps your best shot of a session and quietly discards the rest. Improve it by shortening your backswing to remove the largest variable, fixing one thing at a time, and tracking strike dispersion with impact tape so you can tell a real improvement from a good day.
