Golf Swing Calculators & PGA Tour P1–P10 Benchmarks
Three ratios govern ball-striking efficiency at every skill level. Pick a calculator, enter your numbers, and see where you sit between the average 15-handicap and the PGA Tour.
3:1 Golf Swing Tempo Ratio Calculator
Count the frames from P1 takeaway to P4 top of backswing, and from P4 top to P7 impact on your phone video. Tour pros average a 3.0 : 1 ratio regardless of overall swing speed.
Changing it rescales your frame counts.
P1 → P4 · 0.80s
Tour 0.70–0.90s
P4 → P7 · 0.27s
Tour 0.23–0.30s
Your 0.80s backswing and 0.27s downswing (1.07s total) hit the 3:1 kinematic window, giving your pelvis time to initiate P4.5 transition before your arms fire.
Smash Factor & Ball Compression Calculator
Enter your launch monitor clubhead speed and ball speed to compute your Smash Factor (Ball Speed ÷ Club Speed) and see how many yards of carry you are losing to high dynamic loft or off-center strikes.
Low 7-iron smash factor (< 1.26) almost always indicates early release (flipping) or off-center contact.
Tour ball speed at 80 mph: 106.4 mph
Increasing your 7-Iron (32°) smash factor from 1.25 to 1.33 at the exact same 80 mph swing speed unlocks +6.4 mph ball speed (~9 extra yards of carry) by eliminating P6 casting and P7 wrist flipping.
P4 Top of Backswing X-Factor Calculator
Calculate your X-Factor differential (Thoracic Turn − Pelvis Turn) at P4 top of backswing to evaluate whether you are storing elastic core torque or turning your hips and shoulders together as a single block.
Tour P4: 90°–100°
Tour P4: 40°–48°
Your 46° separation between a 90° shoulder turn and 44° hip turn matches PGA Tour P4 coil, setting up an extra 5°–8° of X-Factor Stretch at P4.5 transition.

Frequently Asked Questions About Swing Tempo, Smash Factor & X-Factor
How do I calculate my golf swing tempo ratio from phone video?+
Record your swing at 60 fps, 120 fps, or 240 fps. Count the frames from initial clubhead movement at P1 address to the top of the backswing at P4, then divide by the number of frames from P4 top to P7 ball impact. PGA Tour players average a 3.0 to 1 ratio (for example, 48 backswing frames and 16 downswing frames at 60 fps).
What is a good Smash Factor for a Driver and a 7-Iron?+
Smash Factor equals Ball Speed divided by Clubhead Speed. For a driver, PGA Tour players average 1.49 (near the 1.50 physical limit). For a 7-iron, Tour players average 1.33 to 1.35 because higher club loft converts more energy into vertical launch and backspin. If your 7-iron Smash Factor is below 1.26, you are likely casting at P6 or flipping your wrists at P7 impact.
What is X-Factor in the golf swing and how is it calculated?+
X-Factor is the angular difference between your upper torso (thoracic) rotation and your pelvis (hip) rotation at P4 top of the backswing. Subtract your P4 hip turn from your P4 shoulder turn: a 92-degree shoulder turn minus a 44-degree hip turn equals a 48-degree X-Factor. Tour players average 45 to 55 degrees at P4 and increase that by 5 to 8 degrees during the P4.5 X-Factor Stretch.
Can I measure my P1–P10 angles and tempo automatically without counting frames?+
Yes. Uploading a single down-the-line or face-on phone video to AI Golf School runs 33-point MediaPipe 3D pose tracking across P1 through P10, automatically measuring your tempo ratio, X-Factor, spine tilt stability, and shaft plane against PGA Tour benchmarks.
