Why this drill works

A shoulder-blades-together cue counters the rounded, slumped upper back of C-posture at setup; resetting the scapulae before bending into the golf posture keeps the spine closer to neutral instead of collapsing forward.

How to do it

  1. 1

Before settling into address, stand tall and gently draw the shoulder blades together and slightly down, not up into a shrug.

  2. 2

Hold the scapular squeeze for a couple of seconds to feel the chest open and the upper back come out of a rounded position.

  3. 3

Maintain that upper-body set as you hinge forward from the hips into your golf posture, rather than letting the shoulders roll forward as you bend over.

  4. 4

Use this scapular reset as a repeatable pre-shot cue so every address position starts from the same tall, un-rounded upper back.
