Why this drill works

Topping is often caused by the fear of hitting the ground, which makes golfers bend their arms to shorten the swing radius. This drill forces the golfer to commit to a descending blow and extend the lead side, proving that the low point is correct and eliminating the fear of hitting the ground.

How to do it

  1. 1

Step 1 (No Ball): Place a tee low in the ground. Focus solely on clipping the tee out of the ground (5 reps).

  2. 2

Step 2 (Ball on Tee): Place a ball on the low tee. Focus remains on clipping the tee out of the ground (5 reps).

  3. 3

Step 3 (Imagination): Remove the tee. Visualize the tee is still underneath the ball and focus on hitting that imaginary tee (5 reps).
