Why This Drill Works (Kinetic Mechanics)
Consistency is a dispersion measurement and it cannot be felt, because memory keeps the best strike of a session and quietly discards the rest. Nine unadjusted swings with a photographic record turns a vague sense of striking it better into something that is either true or not.
How to Perform the Drill
Follow these step-by-step instructions. Rehearse slowly to build proper motor patterns before adding full swing speed.
- 1
Step 1
Put impact tape or foot spray on the face of a 7-iron.
- 2
Step 2
Hit nine balls at one target, using your full pre-shot routine on every single one.
- 3
Step 3
Change nothing between shots. This measures what you have, not what you can force.
- 4
Step 4
Photograph the face and look at the SPREAD of the marks, not where they average out.
- 5
Step 5
Write the spread down. Repeat weekly - improvement is real only when the spread shrinks.
What Good Feels Like
Focus on smooth tempo and maintaining body connection through impact. Your body and club should move as a single synchronized unit.
Common Mistake to Avoid
Rushing transition before completing backswing or lunging upper body forward towards ball at impact. Keep movement controlled.
