Glute-Brace Address Routine
Curated PGA Drill by Titleist Performance Institute
Setup
3 sets of 10 slow rehearsal reps
Golf club, alignment stick (optional)
Intermediate
Why This Drill Works (Kinetic Mechanics)
Many S-posture cases come from inactive glutes that fail to support the pelvis, allowing the lumbar spine to over-arch. Continuous low-grade glute activation restores pelvic stability, neutralizes the lumbar curve, and allows the hips to rotate freely without resorting to early extension.
How to Perform the Drill
Follow these step-by-step instructions. Rehearse slowly to build proper motor patterns before adding full swing speed.
- 1
Step 1
Before each shot, stand tall and lightly engage the glutes: a 30 percent squeeze, not full.
- 2
Step 2
Hinge into address while keeping the glute brace; the lower back should feel supported, not arched.
- 3
Step 3
If the brace releases the moment you take grip, restart: the activation must hold through the swing.
- 4
Step 4
Practice with continuous low-grade glute engagement for one full bucket.
- 5
Step 5
Confirm by checking the lower back in a mirror at address: smooth straight line, not exaggerated arch.
What Good Feels Like
Focus on smooth tempo and maintaining body connection through impact. Your body and club should move as a single synchronized unit.
Common Mistake to Avoid
Rushing transition before completing backswing or lunging upper body forward towards ball at impact. Keep movement controlled.
