Trail-Armpit Headcover (Width Without Disconnection)
Connection
3 sets of 10 slow rehearsal reps
Golf club, alignment stick (optional)
Beginner
Why This Drill Works (Kinetic Mechanics)
Keeps the trail arm folding in front of the torso instead of separating behind it, so the arms travel with the chest rather than independently. Uses one arm rather than two, so it trains connection without the shortened arc a double-armpit towel tends to produce.
How to Perform the Drill
Follow these step-by-step instructions. Rehearse slowly to build proper motor patterns before adding full swing speed.
- 1
Step 1
Tuck a headcover under the trail armpit with light pressure - hold it there, do not clamp it.
- 2
Step 2
Make half swings to the top. The headcover should stay put without you squeezing to keep it.
- 3
Step 3
If it drops during the takeaway you lifted the arms: restart and let the chest move first.
- 4
Step 4
If it drops in the downswing the trail elbow flew out: feel the elbow drop in front of the trail hip.
- 5
Step 5
Only build toward full speed while it stays in place.
What Good Feels Like
Focus on smooth tempo and maintaining body connection through impact. Your body and club should move as a single synchronized unit.
Common Mistake to Avoid
Rushing transition before completing backswing or lunging upper body forward towards ball at impact. Keep movement controlled.
