IntermediateFixes: Loss of LagTransition

Split-Grip Lag Pump Drill

Drill by AI Golf School curated

Why this drill works

The split grip makes an early throw obvious because the trail hand races past the lead hand. Pumping down with wrist structure intact teaches lag retention before the player adds speed.

How to do it

  1. 1

Take a split grip with the trail hand 3-4 inches below the lead hand.

  2. 2

Swing to the top, then pump the handle down to trail-thigh height while the clubhead stays behind the hands.

  3. 3

Repeat two slow pumps, keeping the trail wrist bent and lead wrist flat or slightly bowed.

  4. 4

On the third pump, rotate through to a three-quarter finish without throwing the clubhead early.
