Why this drill works

Trains a wide-narrow-wide swing path. Placing a box as an obstacle forces you to keep the downswing narrow (retaining wrist angle/lag longer) to avoid hitting the box, preventing early release and casting.

How to do it

  1. 1

Setup: Place an empty, open-topped box on the ground (1:09-1:12). Using a box you intend to throw away removes the fear of damaging equipment (1:16-1:20).

  2. 2

The Goal: Drill teaches a 'wide-narrow-wide' swing path. Be wide on backswing, narrow on downswing (maintaining wrist angle longer), and wide again at finish (1:26-1:31).

  3. 3

Execution: Measure yourself to the golf ball, then position yourself on the opposite side of the box so that it serves as an obstacle you must avoid on the narrow downswing.
